How this Enneagram test works

Answering the 54 statements

The test shows 54 short statements, one at a time: six for each of the nine Enneagram types, mixed in six rounds so no type comes up in a long block. You rate each one on a 7-point scale from strongly disagree to strongly agree, and every statement has a neutral middle. Three of the six statements for each type are worded in reverse, so agreeing with everything does not push you toward any one type.

Most people finish in about ten minutes. There is no sign-up and no email address: the scoring runs in your browser, and your answers are saved only on your device, so you can close the tab and pick up later. Some people call a tool like this an Enneagram quiz; whatever you call it, the method behind this one is published in full, so you can see how every answer is counted.

What your result shows

Each type gets the sum of its six answers. Your result names your most likely core type, your wing (the higher-scoring of the two neighboring types on the circle), a confidence level of high, medium or low based on the gap to the second-highest score, and a runner-up type that is worth reading too.

You also get a tritype: the strongest type in each of the three centers, gut, heart and head, with your core type first and the other two ordered by score. On the tritype test page you can see how to read it, and our tritype article covers where the idea comes from.

When your answers do not support a clear call, the test says so instead of guessing. A tie at the top means no wing and no tritype, a very flat profile reads as “No clear type yet” with two leanings, and a tie inside one center leaves the tritype out. Every rule is spelled out step by step on the page about how the test works.

What the result cannot tell you

The Enneagram is a popular typology, not a scientifically validated diagnostic, and there are no reliability or validity figures for this test. Treat your result as a good question to explore, not as a verdict about who you are.

Self-report has limits: people tend to answer as they would like to be, and a rough week can tilt a few answers. The best check is to read the nine type profiles, starting with your result and your runner-up, and ask which core motivation really fits. For the wider debate, see criticism of the Enneagram.

Your answers and the optional statistics

Nothing you answer is sent to us. After a clear result you can choose to add it to our anonymous type statistics. Only the result type and the site language are sent, and only if you tap the button.

After your result you can also meet your Soul character and play with it in the Soul Corner, just for fun.
